Predicting the future

It’s impossible to see the future with complete certainty, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make general assumptions about things likely to be true.

For example, your birthday is the same day every year. Assuming that you will live long enough to see your birthday, you can predict precisely the day you’ll celebrate it.

Tax day also happens, generally, on the same day every year (April 15th). That means you can prepare your taxes for that day.

Here are just a few things you can predict with a fair amount of certainty:

  1. The seasons and their general temperatures
  2. Birthdays
  3. Holidays
  4. Anniversaries
  5. Rent/mortgage
  6. Bills
  7. Work schedule
  8. Car inspection and registration
  9. School year
  10. Olympics

The simple point here is: the more you can predict, the more you can prepare. And the more you can prepare, the more is under your control.

The world isn’t as unpredictable as you may think.
